Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Cheapest per gram of elemental magnesium in our test (52p/g)
  • Established UK supplement brand with decades of history
  • Includes added Vitamin B6 for magnesium metabolism
  • 120 vegan tablets — 2-month supply at 2 per day
  • Lab confirmed 384mg elemental — close to the 400mg claim

Cons

  • Lab testing suggests oxide buffering — 400mg elemental from 2,000mg compound requires oxide
  • Pure glycinate at 2,000mg would yield only ~180–260mg elemental — not 384mg
  • Transparency score suffers — labelled as 'glycinate' but likely contains undisclosed oxide
  • No public third-party batch test results available
  • Contains 6 inactive ingredients including bulking agents, flow agents, stabilisers, coating, and colouring — more fillers than any other product we tested

Ingredient Quality

Zipvit is one of the UK's longest-running online supplement brands, and their Magnesium Glycinate 2000mg is a popular choice. The label says 120 vegan tablets, 2 per day for a 2-month supply, providing 400mg elemental magnesium per serving with added Vitamin B6. Our independent lab testing found 384mg (96% of claim) — so the elemental magnesium is mostly there.

However, the maths raises questions. Pure magnesium bisglycinate at 2,000mg would yield approximately 180–260mg of elemental magnesium depending on chelation specifics — nowhere near 384mg. To hit that number, the formula almost certainly contains magnesium oxide as a buffering agent. Oxide is 60% elemental but only about 4% absorbed by the body. This is the same pattern we found across multiple competitors.

Value Analysis

At roughly 52p per gram of elemental magnesium, Zipvit is the cheapest product we tested. But this calculation is based on total elemental content, not absorbed magnesium. If a significant portion comes from poorly-absorbed oxide, the true value calculation changes substantially. You're paying less, but potentially absorbing less too.

Effectiveness

The added Vitamin B6 is a genuine positive — it supports magnesium metabolism and cellular uptake. If the glycinate portion of the formula is meaningful, you'll get some benefit from the chelated form. But the oxide portion (which our analysis suggests is present) will pass through largely unabsorbed. The effective dose of bioavailable magnesium may be considerably lower than the 384mg on the lab report.

Who Is This Best For?

Zipvit makes sense for budget-conscious buyers who want a high headline dose and aren't concerned about the glycinate-oxide question. The brand's track record provides some baseline confidence. But if absorption and ingredient honesty matter to you, a verified pure glycinate product is worth the premium.

Zipvit Magnesium Glycinate 2000mg FAQ

Is Zipvit Magnesium Glycinate really pure glycinate?

Our lab testing found 384mg of elemental magnesium from a 2,000mg serving. Pure magnesium bisglycinate at that weight would yield approximately 180–260mg elemental. The additional elemental magnesium is likely coming from magnesium oxide used as a buffering agent, which is not explicitly disclosed on the label.

Why is Zipvit so much cheaper than other glycinate products?

Magnesium oxide is significantly cheaper than magnesium glycinate. If a product uses oxide to bulk up the elemental magnesium number while labelling it as 'glycinate', the manufacturing cost is much lower. This may explain the competitive pricing.
