Ingredient Quality

SS Sport Supplies' Magnesium Glycinate with Vitamin B6 has two problems revealed by our independent lab testing. First, it's the only product in our comparison that was under-dosed: we found 291mg of elemental magnesium versus the 315mg claimed — an 8% shortfall. Second, as with other products in this test, the high elemental claim from a glycinate label suggests oxide buffering.

The product comes in a black bottle with teal accents, claiming 1,500mg strength per serving with 120 capsules. The addition of Vitamin B6 is the formula's one genuine positive. B6 supports cellular magnesium uptake and is a sensible inclusion in a magnesium supplement. But a useful co-nutrient doesn't compensate for a product that doesn't deliver what the label promises.

Value Analysis

At 57p per gram of elemental magnesium, Sport Supplies sits mid-range on price. The 120-capsule supply is generous if the single-capsule serving holds up. However, value calculations based on a 315mg label claim need to be adjusted down to the 291mg reality. And if a portion of that 291mg is from oxide rather than the glycinate stated on the label, the true absorbed value drops further.

Effectiveness

The under-dosing issue directly impacts effectiveness. You're not getting the dose you think you're getting. If we also factor in likely oxide buffering, the bioavailable magnesium per serving could be significantly lower than the 291mg lab result suggests. The B6 addition partially mitigates this by improving absorption of whatever genuine glycinate is present, but it's not enough to overcome the fundamental dosing and transparency issues.

Who Is This Best For?

We struggle to recommend SS Sport Supplies when it's the only product that failed to meet its own label claim in our lab testing. The brand's limited track record, Amazon-only distribution, and lack of independent testing data compound the concern. There are better options at similar price points.

SS Sport Supplies Magnesium Glycinate with Vitamin B6 FAQ

How much was Sport Supplies Magnesium under-dosed?

Our independent lab testing found 291mg of elemental magnesium per serving versus the 315mg claimed on the label — an 8% shortfall. This was the only product in our test that came in below its stated dose.

Does the added Vitamin B6 help?

Vitamin B6 does support magnesium absorption and metabolism, so it's a useful addition. However, it doesn't compensate for an under-dosed product with transparency concerns about the magnesium form being used.
